PROJECT DESCRIPTION
BABICHacoustics worked with the Design and Construction Team on this renovation for the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. The museum purchased the historic Carnegie Library constructed in 1890. The theater inside of the building was renovated and occupied by the New Hazlett Theater in 2006. However, the remainder of the building remained vacant. The museum refurbished the remainder of the structure primarily for use of their new MuseumLab, a place where kids 10+ can have cutting-edge experiences in art, tech and making. Additionally, the renovation provided space for Manchester Charter School and office space for organizations such as Reading is FUNdamental.
A pre-construction acoustical survey was completed to evaluate sound and impact isolation capabilities of the existing structure in order to provide appropriate acoustical separation between tenants. Assistance was given to the Design Team in appropriate selection of acoustical treatments throughout all spaces throughout the building including a Noisy-Dusty Studio, Wet-Clean Studio, a Multipurpose Room, a Library, classrooms, and offices. Mechanical noise was evaluated throughout the building to provide appropriate background noise in each space.
Congratulations to Koning Eizenberg for being rewarded the 2020 A+Awards Special Honoree Award for its work on this project!
