Project description
BABICHacoustics assisted Bohlin Cywinski Jackson with the acoustical design for a new four-story building used by Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering. The project created a courtyard and physical connection to existing Porter Hall and Hamerschlag Hall. A large High Bay Maker Space occupies the majority of the first floor where researchers and students collaborate. The maker space will provide full-size manufacturing capabilities and the ability to showcase large scale prototypes such as student constructed solar-powered boats and race cars. Classrooms and offices are located on the remaining floors. ANSYS, the simulation software company, has a dedicated office suite for their employees. Acoustical consulting services included recommendations for acoustical treatments throughout the building as well as noise control throughout the facility. This sustainable building is targeting a LEED Gold certification.
