Project description
BABICHacoustics was hired to provide acoustical consulting services for a new-build, K-6 school in the Seneca Valley School District. Room acoustics, sound isolation and mechanical noise control recommendations were considered for multiple spaces, including a music wing (band room, orchestra room, chorus room, general music room), a gymnasium, dining spaces, and open collaboration spaces.
BABICHacoustics worked with CannonDesign throughout the Design Development and Construction Documents phases to review drawings, details, specifications and incorporate recommendations into the design of the building. This projects is currently under construction and site visits will commence in 2022 to complete this new school.
The American Alliance of Museums published an article about the project since the school district involved the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in the design process. The museum helped the design team reimagine the school as a combination of highly interactive spaces. Anne Fullenkamp, Senior Director of Design at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh states, “considering empty walls as important spaces gave us more opportunities to develop another layer of tools that gives agency to students and teachers to be curators of their environment: it’s an idea every school district should embrace.”
